Theatre Access

Access to the theatre is via the side door  with a ramp. Either side door opens so stand well clear because I was almost hit with the side door.

There is easy access to the box where we were seated once inside.

Seat and Staging

Toilets

The access host greeted us upon arrival, and helped us access the side door.

They  showed us to our seats band checked on us at half time. l was escorted to and from the toilet and at the end of the show they met us and helped us exit via the side door.

We were able to order drinks via the app and the access host delivered this directly to us at the interval. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

We sat in seat Dress Circle A30 and A31.

This is a box off to the side. â€‹The box was great for two of us as there was enough space for us both to see the stage. It would have been easier to have the additional two seats removed to give us more space. We were also right next to the speakers so it was very loud!

Again as the seat is advertised as a side view I wasn't expecting to see as much of the stage as we could but we did have to lean forward for some of the show. The seating provision in the box is for four and had three chairs in it but I was informed that usually only one wheelchair and carer are allocated seating. If there had been two additional people it would have been very cramped and we definitely would have had a restricted view.

Also when I needed the bathroom during the interval the ice cream vendor had to move his stall and it was a bit treacherous reversing near the steps but manageable with assistance. â€‹

The toilet was located in the foyer to the side of the auditorium. This required navigating the busy lobby at the interval.

You don't need a radar key to access it which meant that tagain here were several people queuing who did not need to use the access toilet. My carer asked them if they required the accessible toilet which they replied they did not and moved aside to let me use it. He find the misuse of accessible toilets very frustrating and a easy solution would be the radar key lock.

The toilet is an average size and  there is enough space to side transfer if you enter in reverse.

I visited in July 2024 and all views expressed above are my personal opinion.

It was my second visit to the Gielgud Theatre
